Structures providing policy-relevant advice on infrastructures

Based on an amendment of the Federal Research and Technology Granting Act, a new Advisory Council on Research and Technological Development was established in 2000 (www.rat-fte.at). It is composed of eight prominent representatives of academia and industry, four of each sector. The federal Ministers of Education, Science and Culture, and of Transport, Innovation and Technology are non-voting members. The Council advises the federal government in all aspects of research and technology policy and, if requested, individual ministers and the Laender (= federal provinces) also. Its task is to advise on principal and strategic questions, securing a coherent federal research policy. The Ministry of Science is driving the ESFRI process in Austria.
