LifeWatch Italy is the national node of LifeWatch-ERIC, the European Infrastructure supplying e-Science research facilities for biodiversity and ecosystems. LifeWatch was born to allow researchers tackling today's big challenges, such as those related to the sustainability of development, conservation of biodiversity and ecosystems, and climate change, by using virtual research environments equipped with cutting-edge ICT tools to share, manage and model data. The Annual Conference of LifeWatch Italy, open to the national scientific community, aims at presenting the latest developments of the national node, at the same time, welcoming external contributions on case studies and technological solutions, creating new opportunities for interaction and cooperation with the Infrastructure.
12th Panhellenic Symposium of Oceanography & Fisheries
The 12th Panhellenic Symposium of Oceanography & Fisheries (12th Symposium) will be held at the premises of the Ionian University, Corfu (Greece), from Thursday 31st of May till Sunday 3rd of June 2018. The official opening ceremony of the Symposium will take place on Wednesday 30th of May 2018.

During the first meeting of the EU-Latin America and the Caribean Working Group on Research Infrastructures (WG RI), hold last March 14th at Brussels, was stated LifeWatch ERIC as a key Research (e-)Infrastructure for EU-Latin America and the Caribbean Cooperation on Research Infrastructures.
European Ecological Federation December 2017 Event in Ghent
From Dec 11th to 14th BES, GfÖ & NecoV Joint Annual Meeting: Ecology Across Borders This is the first time the BES, GfÖ and NecoV have held a conference together and we are delighted to be working together to deliver a meeting of 1,200 leading ecologists from around the world in Belgium. The joint meeting aims to build closer ties between the vibrant academic ecological communities in Europe, and meets the strategic objectives of all three of the ecological Societies. The meeting will bring together ecologists to discuss the latest advances in ecological research across the whole discipline and will focus on the major environmental challenges at the European level. The meeting will be held in association with the European Ecological Federation (EEF). LifeWatch will participate with a both and speeches where several Virtual Research Environments and related projects will be shown.
Last May 23rd, 2017, European Commission Director-General for Research & Innovation, Robert Jan-Smits, awarded the LifeWatch ERIC Plate to the Spanish Secretary of State for Research, Development & Innovation, Carmen Vela, who received it on behalf of the entire LifeWatch community.

LifeWatch ERIC heartily endorses the European Open Science Cloud-EOSC establishment
On 12 June, the Commission held the European Open Science Cloud-EOSC Summit in Brussels. The Summit has been the Europe's moment of commitment to the EOSC and it will generate a number of concrete EOSC Statements for implementation.
Service Center, support for the scientific community
The Service Centre (Italy) will deal, in tight coordination with ICT-Core and Statutory Seat (Spain), with the provision of services to the user community like guarantee accessibility or solving doubts about how to use tools....
The EGI-LifeWatch Competence Center has organized a workshop in Santander to analyze the progress in the Esfri construction, as well as to discuss the next actions that might be taken in the next months. The meeting will take place from 2nd to 4th September at the Instituto de Física de Cantabria.

The document is based on the existing "LifeWatch ERIC Distributed Construction: STRATEGIC PLAN" presented and discussed during the 5th LifeWatch e-Infrastructure Construction Operational Meeting held in Málaga on February 2015.

A LifeWatch technical scientific workshop was held h in Crete. The meeting, organised by the national node of LifeWatch in Greece, it was targeted to the design of a Marine Virtual Research Environment in the framework of LifeWatch ESFRI.
The Statutory Seat and the ICT e-Infrastructure Technical Offices will jointly assist to the coordination and management of the day-to-day institutional relationships, administrative, legal, and financial issues.
The Service Centre will provide the interface with the Biodiversity Scientific Community, identify the needs of the multiple users groups from different domains and areas of interest and coordinate the development and operation of those Services related.
The Virtual Laboratories and Innovations Centre will coordinate and manage the requirements and needs analysis, design and implementation of the scientific case studies and productions of the LifeWatch Virtual Laboratories.
