At its 9th edition, the Big Seashell Survey returns to the Belgian coast!
On 21 March 2026, this annual citizen science event invites people across 10 coastal municipalities in Belgium to explore the fascinating world of seashells along the high-tide line and take part in real scientific research.
Adults and kids alike will learn about marine biodiversity, how climate change affects coastal ecosystems, and the presence of exotic species, at the same time helping researchers collect and analyse valuable data.
This year, the event has a special focus on the relationship between the sea (and in particular the meditative experience of shell counting) and its effects on the mind.
