RESTORE4Cs at the Water Resilience Forum

Water Resilience Forum

Brussels, Belgium

The RESTORE4Cs project, promoting the restoration and protection of European coastal wetlands, has announced its participation in the first Water Resilience Forum, taking place on 8 December 2025 at the European Commission’s Jacques Delors Building in Brussels.

The forum, following the recently adopted European Water Resilience Strategy, will bring together policymakers, scientists, industry representatives, and civil society to discuss ways to address water scarcity, water quality degradation, and climate-related risks by 2050.

This is a particularly relevant topic for RESTORE4Cs, which will be present with a booth showcasing project results and insights, and will also host the première of its documentary series.

Attendees will have the opportunity to explore key findings and tools, discover best practices, and engage directly with project partners.

Wetlands in Action first appointment: Tracking Carbon and GHG Dynamics in Wetland Restoration

Wetlands in action

The RESTORE4Cs Project (https://www.restore4cs.eu), together with its sister Horizon Europe projects ALFAwetlands, REWET, and WET HORIZONS announced the launch of “Wetlands in Action”, a webinar series spotlighting cutting-edge wetland research, cross-project collaboration, and innovation in restoration and policy across Europe.

The first online appointment with the series happens on 18 November 2025, dedicated to “Tracking Carbon and GHG Dynamics in Wetland Restoration”. The launch session will feature the Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS) European Chapter, highlighting international perspectives and opportunities for collaboration across the wetland science community.

It will be a chance to explore how wetland restoration affects greenhouse gas dynamics and climate outcomes and learn from case studies across Europe’s wetland ecosystems.

Each session in the Wetlands in Action series will feature concise, high-impact presentations followed by an open Q&A, supporting cross-sector dialogue and knowledge exchange among scientists, policymakers, restoration practitioners, and other stakeholders.

Running from November 2025 to April 2026, the series showcases the collaborative strength of four Horizon Europe projects, each contributing unique methodologies and case studies that drive evidence-based restoration and resilience strategies for European wetlands.

RESTORE4Cs School Competition on Coastal Wetlands

school competition on coastal wetlands

The RESTORE4Cs project launched a School Competition to take place on 16 May 2025, online, dedicated to students aged 12 and over across Europe.

The initiative is designed to introduce students to the world of coastal wetlands, their essential ecological functions, their role in biodiversity, and how they contribute to climate resilience.

The competition features a Serious Game, that help students understand these key concepts and explore the broader topics of ecosystem services, biodiversity and sustainable management practices.

You can register your class by 15 May (at noon). Learn more: https://www.restore4cs.eu/restore4cs-school-competition

Coastal Wetlands: Evidence for Climate and Nature Targets Workshop

Online, 23 May 2024

On 23 May 2024, at 10:00 CET, RESTORE4Cs will organise an online workshop to broaden the perspectives available for countries in finding solutions for achieving and reporting success in coastal conservation towards international and EU commitments.

European Union policies emphasise the importance of wetlands in achieving EU objectives related to climate neutrality, biodiversity protection, zero pollution, flood protection, and the circular economy. Therefore, it is crucial to prioritise assessing the current extent and condition of European wetlands, their greenhouse gas emissions, and their potential for mitigation through restoration or other measures. These priorities are essential to stopping biodiversity decline, restoring the environment, and achieving climate goals.

The workshop aims to identify countries’ needs, shared priorities, and activities for restoring wetland ecosystems. It also aims to establish indicators for assessing coastal wetland habitats and ensure the quality of evidence for policy development and investment in nature-based solutions.
