ENERGYTRAN High-Level Meeting

On September 18th, 2025, LifeWatch ERIC will participate in the High-Level Meeting on Energy Transition and Climate Sustainability, hosted at the Consejo Nacional de Rectores (CONARE). International experts will be presenting the preliminary results of the ENERGYTRAN project, which seeks to foster collaboration between Europe and Latin America to address shared challenges in the fields of energy transition and climate action.

The meeting will gather a wide range of high-level participants, including representatives of international cooperation organizations, national institutions, and academia, strengthening dialogue between Europe and Latin America on the pressing issues of climate sustainability and energy transition. Among the confirmed institutions are: Organización de Estados Iberoamericanos (OEI); Centro Nacional de Alta Tecnología (CeNAT); Fundación CRUSA; Costa Rica por Siempre; German Cooperation (GIZ); Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE); Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC); Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica; Tecnológico Nacional de México (TecNM); Universidad Nacional del Nordeste (UNNE),.

The programme will cover a diverse set of themes, from international cooperation in energy transition and sustainability, to the role of public institutions and academia, concluding with the presentation of initial results of ENERGYTRAN. Maite Irazabal will represent LifeWatch ERIC, showcasing the preliminary results of the project.

Environmental Challenges and Open Science course

EULAC-ENERGYTRAN project launched the pilot e-learning course “Environmental Challenges and Open Science”, which will take place from 22 to 26 September 2025 in San José, Costa Rica.

This hybrid course will be delivered in Spanish with simultaneous interpretation into English and Portuguese, and is free of charge, offering a unique opportunity for participants to explore how open science practices can address global environmental issues, with a special focus on the Latin American and Caribbean context.

Speakers will represent a wide range of prestigious institutions, including: UNESCO; University of Minho / OpenAIRE; Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica; RedCLARA; Centro Nacional de Alta Tecnología (CeNAT), Costa Rica; Polytechnic University of Timișoara; INES TEC (Portugal); Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC); Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF).

From LifeWatch ERIC, Julio Paneque will lead a session focused on open and FAIR science tools and use cases, presenting innovative approaches developed within the ENERGYTRAN project and beyond.

Strengthening Europe – Latin America Cooperation in the Energy Transition

In the EULAC EnergyTRAN Horizon Europe Project framework, the virtual thematic event on technology and energy transition, scheduled for the 26th and 27th of June 2024, aims to bolster cooperation between Europe and Latin America by exploring innovative technologies policies and practices. Organised by the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI), the event will open with introductory presentations from the EU-Solaris ERIC, the OEI, and the European Research Executive Agency (REA). It will feature panels addressing key topics such as the exchange of scientific knowledge, challenges and opportunities in the energy sector, and the environmental and social impacts of energy transition.

Experts from both regions will discuss alternative energy sources, regulatory challenges, and innovative technological solutions like green hydrogen production and solar thermal energy applications. The event will also highlight the importance of international collaboration in advancing sustainable energy research and infrastructure, culminating in a session synthesising the discussions and outlining future steps for enhanced cooperation.
