EOSC Future Open Days

Online, 23–25 November 2021. The EOSC Future project is hosting its first series of open days on 23-25 November. During this virtual event, participants will have the opportunity to ask about the inner workings of the project, recent developments and priorities going forward.

The EOSC Future Open Days will bring together various stakeholders active in the EOSC community to discuss topics that are high on the agenda for EOSC Future, not to mention EOSC in general. These topics include:

  • the EOSC Portal
  • how EOSC Future supports scientific communities
  • EOSC Future engagement opportunities
  • the Digital Innovation Hub Business Pilots
  • the EOSC Observatory
  • the EOSC Future Working Groups
  • the EOSC Future Knowledge Hub. 

The event agenda is built around thematic sessions, so participants can choose the sessions that are most relevant to them. The goal of these sessions is not only to be informative but also to guage the interest and potential contribution of the EOSC community. Interactive Q&A sessions will elaborate on these thematic topics and session discussions.

Tuesday, 23 November

09.00-10.00 CET: The EOSC Portal – for researchers

This session will answer the following questions: How does the EOSC Portal work from a user perspective? What novelties can be expected within EOSC Future?

10.30-11.30 CET: Building an EOSC to support leading-edge research

This session will answer the question: How will science benefit from EOSC?

12.00-13.00 CET: Help create an EOSC that works

This session will discuss engagement opportunities within EOSC Future. During the session, the new EOSC branding competition will also be launched.

Wednesday, 24 November

09.00-10.00 CET: The EOSC Portal – for providers

This session will respond to a series of questions: How does the EOSC Portal work from a service provider perspective? What novelties can be expected within EOSC Future?

10.30-11.30 CET: EOSC Future DIH Business Pilots

This session will answer the questions: What is the EOSC Future Digital Innovation Hub and what are the plans for the business pilots?

12.00-13.00 CET: The EOSC Observatory

This session will answer the question: How will EOSC Future support the EOSC Partnership in monitoring EOSC readiness?

Thursday, 25 November

09.00-10.00 CET: EOSC Future Working Groups

This session will answer a series of prompts: What are the EOSC Future Working Groups doing? In which thematic areas? How is this work different from that of the EOSC Association Task Forces (and how will they collaborate)?

10.30-11.30 CET: The EOSC Future Knowledge Hub

This session will answer the following questions: What is the EOSC Future Knowledge Hub? What are the training plans for EOSC Future?

ICRI 2022

Brno, Czech Republic, 19–21 October 2022. The International Conference on Research Infrastructures (ICRI 2022) is a major worldwide event providing an opportunity for strategic discussions about international cooperation in research infrastructure. A variety of experts and stakeholders discuss challenges and emerging trends, highlighting the essential role of research infrastructures.

Every two years since 2012, ICRI has hosted about 500 delegates, who discuss topics concerning research infrastructures on the international level. The venue alternates between the EU and third countries, and the event is organised jointly by the European Commission and the host country.

International Data Week 2022

International Data Week 2022

Seoul & online, 20–23 June 2022.

The founding organisations, the International Science Council’s Committee on Data (CODATA) and World Data System (WDS), and the Research Data Alliance (RDA), and the local hosts announce that International Data Week 2021 will be postponed to 20–23 June 2022 for the main conference, ‘Data to Improve our World’. Associated events will take place in the period 18–26 June 2022. The conference will be a hybrid format with in-person in Seoul, South Korea as well as virtual participation.

This decision was made in response to the continuing global COVID-19 crisis and its aftermath. In order to bring the international data community together and to ensure that the event would have the maximum impact for our hosts in Korea and internationally, it was felt important to have a significant in-person element, which would not have been possible in November 2021.

Although we are keen to maximise the opportunity for participants to meet in Seoul, the organisers will ensure that there remains a facility for high-quality virtual participation.

Announcements will be made in due course about the arrangements for IDW 2022 and for some virtual events which will still take place in November 2021. CODATA and WDS will communicate with those who had already proposed sessions for SciDataCon. RDA will host Plenary 18, a global eight-day virtual meeting during the period from 3–18 November 2021.

ENVRI Week 2022

ENVRI Week 2022

Online, 31 January – 4 February 2022. ENVRI-FAIR invites you to the 11th ENVRI week. This will be an online event.

ENVRI week is a week dedicated to Environmental Research Infrastructures, which happens once a year. ENVRI week hosts ENVRI-FAIR project-related sessions as well as several other sessions targeting different groups of stakeholders.

GEO Week 2021

GEO Week 2021

Online, 22–26 November 2021. GEO has been focused on the use of Earth observations (EO) for environmental and societal impact for many years, however this year is one of the most important with major milestones linked to global policy agendas. The United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26, is the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), there is also the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) COP15, the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development and the UN Decade of Ecosystem Restoration. These all bring a new set of challenges and opportunities for the international EO community. During GEO Week 2021, we will present the multidisciplinary activities of the GEO Work Programme that address these areas. Notably through the lens of nexus thinking to highlight how the use of EO in different sectors contributes to these efforts and why integration across thematic areas is essential.

This online event will include the GEO-17 Plenary, anchor sessions and side events, as well as a youth track and an industry track. Time will be scheduled each day for virtual networking. The 56th Executive Committee will be held as a closed meeting on Monday 22 November.

The GEO-17 Plenary Session will be held 23–26 November.

Delegations

Plenary sessions will be broadcasted live and the session recordings will be made available afterwards. We hope to receive all delegation nominations before the start of Plenary-17.

Anchor Sessions and Side Events

These virtual, interactive events will take place throughout the week and aim to address the various aspects of the GEO work programme, as well as the nexus possibilities across activities. Recordings of the sessions will be made available on the GEO website. Side events are now closed.

Statements

Member statements will be made available on the GEO Week website on 23 November. The call for statements was published in July 2021.

Session descriptions

Opening Session: The first part of the GEO Week where all attendees will be provided with an overview of all planned activities, including welcome speeches and a keynote speech to set the tone for the week.

Plenary Sessions: Under the banner of Accelerating Action in GEO, a series of sessions will look at the GEO Work Programme, in particular progress on the GEO Engagement Priorities and the activities of the GEO Working Groups.

Anchor Sessions: These are the main events designed by GEO week 2021 organisers to explain the multidisciplinary nature of GEO through the concept of nexus thinking. Working on multiple topics simultaneously is essential in today’s rapidly changing environmental and social conditions. For example, work in one area will have a knock-on effect or impact in another area, including synergies and trade-offs. These events are linked to the global policy agendas that underpin most of GEO’s work.

Side Events: The side events highlight the activities of the GEO community engaged in the GEO work programme,including progress since the last meetings and plans for the upcoming period. Each session will last 50 minutes.

Virtual Networking: Breaks between sessions will provide an opportunity for attendees to meet and discuss GEO Week topics. This networking will take place in a separate, dedicated room.

Metz Ecology & Evolution

Metz, France, 21–25 November 2022. During the last century, a period now known as the Anthropocene, ecologists and evolutionists alerted the Society to several major environmental crises such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution of the environment. In response, scientists throughout the world have joined forces to not only identify and explain these phenomena but to develop tools that may help to solve these major environmental issues! However, there remain many open questions related to new challenges, new perspectives, and possibly new solutions, all of which need to be discussed within the scientific community and between scientists and policy makers. 

We propose to gather with you, the acting scientists in the field of ecology and evolution, at the SFE2-GfÖ-EEF joint meeting “Ecology & Evolution: New perspectives and societal challenges“. It is being organised by the LIEC (University of Lorraine, CNRS) and other labs in northeastern France working in the fields of ecology and evolution. We anticipate a large gathering of scientists, cutting edge researchers, science policy makers, and leading teachers from Europe and elsewhere.

RDA 18th Plenary Meeting

RDA 18th Plenary Meeting

Online, 3–11 Novembre 2021. As communicated in late May, International Data Week 2021 (IDW), planned to take place this November, was postponed to 20-23 June 2022 due to the continuing global COVID-19 crisis and aftermath. RDA has decided, however, to still hold the RDA 18th Plenary Meeting in a virtual format from 3–11 November 2021.
